I’ve teamed up with Smith Brothers to bring you this post.

For all you who live in the beautiful Puget Sound area of Washington State, I want to share a remarkable business with you:  Smith Brothers Farms. Many of you, if you haven’t already heard the name, have most likely seen their truck driving through your neighborhood without realizing who they were.

They are a family-owned business who have been serving the Puget Sound for nearly 100 years, delivering farm fresh milk straight from the farm to your doorstep.

Their milk is always within 48 hours fresh.  That kind of freshness and quality of milk is unmatched by anything you can find in a grocery store.  They also produce their own heavy cream, half and half, buttermilk, sour cream, eggs and seasonal eggnog.  Over the years their business has expanded to include other products, all from other local businesses.

Aside from the stellar quality of their products, there’s another reason why Smith Brothers Farms have stayed in business for nearly a century: Exceptional service.

With Smith Brothers Farms you are assigned your own Milkman who delivers the products you choose on the same day every week.  They provide attractive metal coolers at no extra cost that remain on your doorstep.   Your Milkman delivers your goods without having to knock on your door.  You create a standing order according to your needs, e.g. two gallons of milk, a dozen eggs, a pound of butter, a loaf artisan bread, some bagels, yogurt, cheese, etc.  If you need to adjust the quantity, it’s easy to do so online.  If you need to skip a week or more, you simply adjust your order.  It’s that simple.

And what is especially incredible to me:  Delivery is free.  You simply pay for the goods and Smith Brothers Farms takes care of the rest.

I had the opportunity to sign up with and place and order with Smith Brothers Farms for the first time last week.  The process was super simple.  Within a day or two after submitting my order I received a phone call to schedule my delivery.  They said my Milkman would deliver my order between 7 and 8am on the appointed day last and that is exactly when he arrived.

I am so impressed with how Smith Brothers Farms operates and the quality of their products.  Let me tell you about my experience.

Monday morning I was unloading the dishwasher in the kitchen when I saw the truck arrive, exactly as scheduled.  Our Milkman quietly placed the coolers by our front door, put the products inside, and headed out of our driveway.

I opened the door just in time to give him a wave and was eager to see what he left:  Two attractive insulated metal coolers with my goodies inside.

Inside one of the coolers was a personal note from our Milkman, how neat!

This home delivery was a revolutionary concept to my kids who huddled around me outside to peer into the boxes.  They were anxious to see what kinds of goodies there were so they helped me unload everything onto a table inside.

Smith Brothers Farms has a great selection of dairy and I don’t know of any other service that delivers fresh milk straight from the farm to your doorstep in less than 48 hours.  It’s fantastic!

In addition to the items I ordered they also produce half-and-half and buttermilk and we’re looking forward to trying those next time.  Eggnog is now in season and I was really happy when I read the list of ingredients.  Have you noticed it’s becoming harder and harder to find eggnog that’s made without high fructose corn syrup?  And many even add yellow food coloring.  Smith Brothers Farms uses neither.

The eggs, free range and organic, were very fresh and the yolks were a very nice, deep orange.

Aside from their own dairy products and eggs, Smith Brothers has some great local products to choose from.  We really like to support local businesses as much as possible and Smith Brothers provides such a convenient way to access some of those products that are only available at a very few select locations.

For my first order I wanted to select a variety of things to get an idea of the kinds of products they offer.  Among them were fresh ravioli with caramelized pear and gorgonzola and four cheese ravioli from Cucina Fresca; Maury Island Farm red raspberry jam (no high fructose corn syrup); Berry Macaroon and Raspberry Crumble nut snacks from Sahale; white chocolate dipped molasses cookies and blueberry streusel muffins (made with Northwest blueberries) from Alki Bakery; Erin Baker’s Breakfast Cookies baked fresh with whole grains; Yami organic yogurt, and super-seeded multi-grain bread from Essential Baking.

All of these products are locally made.

And these are just a few of the selections available from Smith Brothers Farms.  Other options include things like cookie dough,  juice, tea, coffee, chocolates and truffles, and special chocolate gift boxes during the holidays.

The delivery came just in time for breakfast and I already knew what I wanted:  A kettle-boiled “everything” bagel with roasted garlic cream cheese spread from Seattle Bagel Bakery.

We’ve already sampled some of everything and are really impressed with the selection and the quality of the products.

Another thing I really like about Smith Brothers Farms is that you’re under no obligation or pressure to order a certain amount.  The only condition is that the order must be a minimum of $10 in order to get the free delivery, and that’s more than reasonable.

Bottom line:  We love Smith Brothers Farm!

I am so impressed with how Smith Brothers Farms operates and the quality of their products.

I’m sentimental anyway, absolutely love the old-fashioned concept of the Milkman and am so thrilled that we have a local business that values quality and freshness and makes it easier for us to support local businesses.

Would you like to sign up to have your own Milkman with free delivery?  It’s easy!  Just visit Smith Brothers Farms to sign up.

And if you refer a friend you get $20 in free groceries!

And now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to enjoy a glass of fresh milk from Smith Brothers Farms along with some locally baked goodies.  I’ll let you guess which ones…

A special thank you to Smith Brothers Farms for sponsoring this post and giving me the opportunity to share their wonderful family-owned business with all of you!

Oh you are so lucky! We used to have a milkman in Scotland, and I would love to have that service here in LA! Sounds like Smith Brothers’ Farms is totally a company I would love (no corn syrup, colors etc. in their eggnog says a lot)! Too bad they’re not here, too! :(

My mother would tell us about how when she grew up they had a milkman who delivered fresh milk to their door. It always sounded like such a wonderful past time to me and I had no idea there was still a business that did that. It looks like Smith Brothers Farms carries a really nice selection and I love how they make local products so easily available, too. Thank you for sharing your experience, I live just south of Seattle and will look into this.

I wish I lived in an area where this kind of service was still available. Alas, I’m not sure there has been a business like that in San Antonio for 40 years or more. Congrats on supporting local business. We do as often as we can, too.
