The Daring Gourmet Kimberly Killebrew

Hi, I’m Kimberly Killebrew.  Wife of one, mother of two, cook of many.

Come travel the world through your taste buds!

I’m originally from Western Europe (Stuttgart, Germany and Cambridgeshire, England), am widely traveled, and am now living in the United States with my husband and our two adorable children.  I love preparing and experimenting with a large range of flavors and cuisines.  Passionate cook, recipe developer, traveler and photo enthusiast, I LOVE FOOD – pure and simple!

Being married to a doctor, I emphasize health and healthy eating.  As a wife, homeschooling mom, and marriage & family therapist, I also believe that eating the occasional naughty indulgence contributes to happy and healthy relationships – and sanity!

As I like to joke with my fellow therapist friends, I now provide “food therapy” :)

— Since it’s creation in 2013, The Daring Gourmet now averages over 4 million monthly visitors and 80,000 email subscribers.  We couldn’t have done this without you.  Thank you for your support! — ❤️

Daring Gourmet Bio Page Collage

Cooking has been one of my biggest passions ever since I can remember.  I was taught to cook by my Bavarian mother, a wonderful international cook and my culinary mentor, who involved me in her cooking adventures from the time I was 4 years old.  She instilled in me a love for good food and an appreciation of a wide spectrum of world cuisine.  Though I later received further training, it’s my mom who deserves most of the credit.  Many of my recipes are influenced by European heritage and my travels throughout the world.

I love developing original recipes, revitalizing classics, and demystifying the obscure.  This food blog features a little something for everyone – everything from the simple to the complex, the known to the obscure, the healthy to the…well…not so healthy, the mild to the spicy, the carnivorous to the omnivorous, the near to the far, the classic to the original, the sweet to the savory…and simply downright good eats!

When I’m not visiting new places by foot, I’m traveling the world through my taste buds.  Come join me!

Than you for the Stollen Recipe. My mother made it for Christmas and we would usually eat it after coming home from midnight mass. I didn’t get a copy of her recipe and she passed away in 2018. My mother was Irish but she baked many German favorites because that was my father’s ancestry. When you said Stuttgart it made me think of Gingen and Hausen an der Fils, the hometowns of my father’s family.

I made the Rustic Rosemary Sourdough Bread. Followed the directions exactly but the crust is very pale. I tried 450F and I got a browner crust but not golden brown. Ideas?

I am anxiously awaiting your cookbook. Having used wood cook stoves I find them superiorbfor cooking, baking Ang slow cooking. When I get motivated I would like to share wild game recipes. They were a staple for over 25 years. Something about eating meat that didn’t spend the last month(s) of its life standing in its own manure.

Love your passion and attitude. Keep the faith. Keep up you good work.

Hello. I am about to make your shortbread as it seems faster than my recipe. I am a chef who uses a little rice flour in mine but I am always looking for an easier way to make things. As an Australian who has learned my lesson the hard way, I wonder why your Doctor husband has allowed you to get so sunburned. Unless it’s the light!! Best wishes.

Thank You! A trifecta indeed: maultaschen, beef goulash ( eaten as appetizer, entree and dessert @ meals in Budapest, all waiters laughing aloud! ) and Mongolian Beef so easy to create!
Loved Stuttgart visits as one brother & family lived there 2 yrs. Wiener Schnitzel will be next! w/ lemon @ side. Studies at Cambridge Univ. one summer had great architecture, history & scenery – Yes! the fels and East Anglia ARE lovely, but needs Scottish salmon for food!
Once again, thank you for the your German and Cambridgeshire background and all points in between! You are a joy! And yes, I know kangaroos are not from Austria, Sachertorte is !

Kimberly, we made your Hungarian goulash recipe last night…I originally did it to fulfill the food lab requirement for my graduate course (historiography of food) in my MA/History program, but it was delicious! You now have two new followers! Thank you for the new addition to our dinner repertoire!

Every recipe is a world on its own. And all so well explained! I fell in love with many but would remark two sauces that keep me addicted: Your hoisin sauce and your remolade. My God, l am wearing-out the door of my fridge. Thanks very much and please carry on delighting us with all those delicious dishes!!

Please don”t say authentic, when you don’t have a clue what you are talking about. This is NOT A GERMAN SAUERBRATEN.
Please get input from actual Germans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love how you write down the recipes! So easy to understand. I have a personal question, though, it’s ok if it’s too private! You say you’re originally from Western Europe (Stuttgart, Germany and Cambridgeshire, England). Your English is really good so I assume you were born in DE and raised in the UK, not the other way round, right? But the UK is not Western Europe, just wondering why you say so :)

Thank you, Agni! :) Geographically, the UK is absolutely part of Western Europe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Europe
