This Honey Orange Glazed Salmon recipe features buttery pan-fried salmon with a luscious tangy sweet orange glaze.ย It’s ready to serve in less than 30 minutes and is casual enough for any weeknight meal and elegant enough for any dinner party!
Originally from Alaska, my husband is a salmon lover through and through.ย Whether cooked or served in the form of sushi, if I made salmon most days of the week he’d be perfectly content.ย My kids have followed suit and are likewise in love with this healthy omega-3 packed fish, so I’m always looking for new ways to prepare salmon.
Today I’m sharing a recipe for pan-fried and orange glazed salmon.ย As delicious as baked salmon is there is something extra yummy about that seared, lightly browned and crusty exterior with the tender, flaky interior.ย Couple that with a luscious glaze and it’s all the yummier.
No hot ovens or baking involved, just a quick searing in the pan and a brief simmer and this Honey Orange Glazed Salmon is ready in less than 30 minutes for your casual family dinner, romantic couple’s night in, or your elegant dinner party!
What to Serve with Honey Orange Glazed Salmon
When serving this orange glazed salmon, you can choose from a variety of side dishes to create a well-rounded meal. Here are a few ideas:
- Rice or Quinoa: Fluffy rice or nutty quinoa are both great neutral sides that will soak up the flavorful sauce of the Orange Glazed Salmon.
- Roasted or Mashed Potatoes: Whether crispy-creamy roasted potatoes or buttery smooth mashed potatoes, either of these are excellent choices.
- Roasted Vegetables: For something extra lovely, try a medley of roasted vegetables such as zucchini, bell peppers, carrots, and asparagus.ย The slightly smoky-charred flavors go beautifully with the citrusy sweetness of the orange honey glaze.
- Steamed or Sautรฉed Greens: A bed of steamed or sautรฉed greens such as spinach, Swiss chard, or kale makes a simple yet elegant and nutritious side.ย The green is also visually complementary to the orange.
- Couscous or Bulgur Salad: For a cold side dish a couscous or bulgur salad makes a great option.ย Add some diced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and fresh herbs and toss the salad with a lemon vinaigrette.
What kind of salmon should I use?
You can use any variety of salmon and you can either leave the skin on or remove it.ย We prefer the crunchiness of the skin but this is personal preference.ย And while we recommend fresh salmon fillets you can use frozen.ย If using frozen them fully thaw in the fridge before using.
Honey Orange Glazed Salmon Recipe
Ready to serve in less than 30 minutes, this salmon is quick and easy to prepare:
- Blot the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the salmon on each side for 4-5 minutes or until cooked through (length of time will depend on the thickness of the fillets. If using skin-on salmon, fry the side without the skin first). Transfer the salmon to a plate and set aside.
- Add the garlic to the pan and cook for a minute. Add the orange juice, chicken broth, and white wine. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to a steady simmer and let the liquid reduce to nearly half. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and simmer another minute until slightly thickened. Stir in the honey. Position the orange slices in the pan and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Taste the sauce and add more salt, pepper, and honey as desired.
- Position the salmon fillets in the pan, spoon the sauce over, and simmer 1-2 minutes or until heated through.
Serve immediately arranged with the orange slices and some sauce spooned over the fillets.
