A copycat Salad Supreme Seasoning recipe for that colorful, zesty, umami-rich seasoning blend that is superbly delicious on leafy salads, pasta salads, vegetables, potatoes, eggs, chicken, seafood and more!

Here it is – your ultimate “everything seasoning” blend! And as with everything, homemade is best. It has the same great flavor as the store-bought stuff, but without all the chemicals, preservatives and additives!
What is Salad Supreme Seasoning?
It’s a McCormick brand seasoning blend that combines Romano cheese with sesame and poppy seeds, paprika, celery seed and other spices to create a vibrantly reddish-orange and flavorful mixture that adds flavor and color to a wide variety of foods. Originally intended to be a seasoning for salad (both leafy salads and pasta salads), it’s a delicious all-purpose seasoning blend that is equally delicious on things like chicken, salmon, eggs, avocado toast, and vegetables.
Salad Supreme Seasoning Ingredients
I’ve cracked the code to this proprietary blend and once you’ve tried it I think you’ll agree that it’s a really close match. To make this copycat Salad Supreme Seasoning utilizes ingredients you likely already have on hand with the exception of the sesame and poppy seeds, which you can find in most any grocery store. Here’s what you’ll need to make it:
- Parmesan Cheese: McCormick uses Romano, but Parmesan or a Parmesan Romano blend makes just as good of a substitute. Avoid using freshly grated cheese because it’s moist, will cause the seasoning blend to clump together, and it spoils faster. Use the pre-grated Parmesan cheese that comes non-refrigerated.
- Sesame and Poppy Seeds: These are integral ingredients in the original blend, both contributing to its flavor and appearance. The flavor of the poppy seeds is more subtle, adding a slightly nutty, sweet and earthy flavor. If you have to omit one of them, let it be the poppy seeds, but the sesame seeds are a must.
- Celery Seed: This is a key flavor in Salad Supreme Seasoning. There are no substitutions and don’t omit it.
- Paprika: Use regular paprika, which is sweet. Don’t substitute hot or smoked paprika.
- Garlic Powder
- Pepper: I recommend freshly ground black pepper for the best flavor.
- Cayenne Pepper: This is optional for just a touch of kick. I usually omit it.
- Salt: I recommend kosher or sea salt.

This is a blend that I make on a regular basis because it’s one of my favorites, especially on salads, vegetables and baked potatoes (sprinkled on top of the sour cream, it’s irresistible). It’s even awesome on popcorn!
This homemade Salad Supreme Seasoning recipe comes together in just a snap, is deliciously versatile, and stores for a few weeks. You’re going to love it!

Salad Supreme Seasoning Recipe
To make this seasoning blend, simply place all of the ingredients in a bowl or in a jar and then stir or shake until combined. Store it in an airtight jar in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to a month.
Keep in mind that since this homemade blend doesn’t contain anti-caking agents, it will clump together a little. So give the jar a thorough shake to break things up before sprinkling it on your food.
Storage Note
Be sure to use pre-grated Parmesan or Romano cheese from the non-refrigerated section of the store. Don’t use freshly grated cheese because it’s moist and will cause the seasoning blend to clump together and it will also spoil more quickly.

Ways to Use Salad Supreme Seasoning
This all-purpose blend is extremely versatile. Here are just few ways you can use it:
- Leafy Salads: Simply sprinkle some over your tossed salads to give them a pop of flavor and color.
- Pasta and Potato Salads: This blend is delicious in both creamy and oil-and-vinegar based pasta and potato salads. Just stir some into the dressing. (See my Classic Potato Salad and Macaroni Salad.)
- Vegetables: Sprinkle it over your steamed or roasted vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, squash, carrots, corn, and more.
- Baked Potatoes: I love adding this to my sour cream or ranch dressing.
- Salad Dressings: Add some to your Italian Dressing or Ranch Dressing to bump up the flavor even further.
- Marinades: Add 1-2 tablespoons of this seasoning blend to marinades for chicken, pork, salmon or shrimp.
- Eggs: This is great sprinkled over scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, omelettes and frittatas (e.g. Spinach and Feta Frittata). It’s also fabulous on deviled eggs.
- Avocado Toast: This blend adds a terrific pop of flavor.
Be creative with it! And enjoy!
