Savory, sweet, smoky and salty – these flavors describe this Pot Roast Seasoning dry rub that will make your next pot roast a total smash hit!Ā  Use it also with chicken, pork, veggies or as an all-purpose seasoning!

I avoid most store-bought sauce packets, dressings and seasonings mixes as much as possible for a couple of reasons:Ā  1)Ā  They’re usually full of additives, preservatives and who-knows-what-else and 2) the flavor can’t compare to homemade anyway!Ā  This Pot Roast Seasoning recipe is super quick and easy to make, has no junk ingredients, and uses spices and herbs you likely already have in your spice cabinet!

How to Use Pot Roast Seasoning

This pot roast seasoning is the perfect dry rub for bringing an amazing flavor to your beef and pork roasts.Ā  Use 2 tablespoons per pound of meat and use your fingers to rub it evenly all over the meat.Ā  Then simply proceed with cooking your roast as usual:Ā  Either browning the roast and then roasting it in a Dutch oven on the stovetop or in the oven, or placing it in the slow cooker or Instant Pot.

But beyond using this spice blend for roasts, it also makes a delicious dry rub for chicken and grilled veggies!Ā  You can even keep this versatile spice blend at the table as an all-purpose seasoning.

And if you’re looking for a thoughtful hostess gift or something to give to family and friends, give them this pot roast seasoning in a cute, labeled jar wrapped with a ribbon.Ā  They’ll love you for it!

We use a combination of difference spices and herbs that both complement and balance each other as well as enhance the overall flavor:

  • Sweet Paprika
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Sea Salt
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • Brown Sugar
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Parsley

Once you’ve gathered up the ingredients simply place them in a jar (except for the bay leaves) and give it several good shakes until the spices are fully combined.Ā  Then screw on the lid and store it – preferably in a dark, cool place – until ready to use.

To use this dry rub on your pot roast you’ll need about 2 tablespoons for every pound of meat.Ā  Feel free to use more.

Blot your roast dry and then rub it down on all sides with this pot roast seasoning mix.

From there you’ll brown the meat in a Dutch oven or other heavy pot and proceed with whichever pot roast recipe you’re using (adding the onions and veggies and whatever else you’re including) and adding the bay leaves along with the liquid.

Can you substitute Italian seasoning for the thyme, rosemary, oregano, and basil?
